Security that protects the event without becoming the event

An event has to remain welcoming while still maintaining control. The difficult part is usually not the quiet period.

01Overview

Premieres, functions and gatherings

It is the few minutes when arrivals peak, credentials are being checked, staff are moving through service entrances and everyone is trying to get somewhere at once. Planning the movement of people is therefore as important as placing officers at doors.

Armani has provided armed officers for red carpet events in Hollywood, alongside coverage for private functions, corporate events and residential gatherings. Deployments mix uniformed and discreet officers, perimeter vehicle patrol, and K9 coverage where open ground and back-of-house justify it.

Where principals attend, event coverage and protective details operate under one plan and one dispatch channel. Two teams working the same room to different plans is the failure mode worth designing out.

02Challenges

Where the pressure points usually appear.

  • 01

    Simultaneous arrival

Credential enforcement has to hold at the exact moment queueing pressure is highest and staff are most tempted to wave people through.

  • 02

Press and public at the perimeter

Managed press positions, controlled sightlines and a defined public boundary have to be established before the first attendee arrives.

  • 03

    Back-of-house and open ground

Service entrances, loading areas and unlit perimeter are where an event is actually entered.

  • 04

    Attending principals

Protective details, venue security and event staff must operate to a single escalation path.

03Our approach

What we put in place here.

  • Venue survey before the security plan is written
  • Posts and headcount derived from the plan, not from a formula
  • Uniformed and plain-clothes officer mix appropriate to the event
  • Perimeter vehicle patrol and K9 coverage where scale justifies it
  • Integration with executive protection for attending principals
  • Written incident record and post-event report
